Celebration of Life of Our Beloved Mother
Doris Jane Brown is affectionately known as “Polly” was born September 21st,1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Florence Mae Greene and the late Frank H. Davis. She received her formal education in the Philadelphia Public School system.
Doris was joined in Holy Matrimony on September 22nd, 1956, to the late Leonard “Charlie” Brown. She was a housewife, a mother, and a friend. Everyone invited into their home became family. She touched so many lives and left an impression on those with whom she came in contact. Her home was a safe haven for anyone that needed it. You knew that if you had nowhere else to go, you were always welcome at Doris’s house. If you got out of line you knew that you were going to get “the track”.
If you wanted to find her, you knew you could find her in the kitchen, in the window, or on the porch. She was the life of the party, if you were at a function, you probably found her on the dance floor with that one move we all knew so well. She may have only given birth to 6 children, but she was a mother to many, she was a natural nurturer and caregiver.
Anyone that knows Doris Brown knows she was a “little piece of leather, well put together” as she would say. She was loved by everyone, well respected and she was the QUEEN BEE who couldn’t sit in the back seat! Doris Jane Brown loved her gospel music and rededicated her life back to the Lord.
Our mother leaves to cherish her memory: (6) Children: Stanley, Leonard, Juanita, Walter, Florence, and Darlene. (2) Daughter in-laws Nancy and Lucinda. (1) Son in law James (6) Bonus Children: Andrea, Eugene SR, Tonya L, Nichelle, Steve, and Tony, (3) God Children: Marvin, Mae Francis, Susie (36) Grandchildren (48) Great-Grandchildren (2) Great-Great grandchildren, (1) Sister Allene (4) sister-in-laws Lee B, Jerry B, Peggy, Alice (1) brother-in-law Lester, Favorite Cousin Sophie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and fifty eleven children she raised.
Those who preceded her in death: (6) Siblings Florence, Walter J, Frank H, Frank Jr, Eugene, William. Stepfather Martin-Green, Son in Law Duane Smaller.
Poem
I Never Left You John F Connor
I watch you every day I’m always very near.
I know deep in your heart. You realize I am here.
I watch you while you sleep in your bed at home.
I hear you when you speak to me. When you’re on your own.
You cannot understand. The reason why I have gone.
But I will never leave you. I’m always there to keep you strong.
Talk to me I hear you. Though you may not see.
We share an unbroken bond. That will always be.
Death won’t keep us apart. For our love is forever.
Just remember me in your heart. And one day we will be together.
Live your life and live it full. Don’t waste a single day.
Remember I’m always with you. Every step of the way.
